STEPPING OUT ON FAITH: LOOKING FOR A FEW LIAISONS AT LOCAL SCHOOLS
Being a parent is tough - especially in this culture. Moms and dads are trying their best to raise good kids with strong faith, and the world is a huge distraction, and sometimes, a tough adversary. Wouldn't it be great if there were advocates that help connect the Church and its support networks with families who could use them?
Saint Luke has begun its Wildfire initiative: taking Jesus into the world where He's needed - and where the Church can make the most difference supporting and advocating for strong families and "good choices", to quote the Pastor! What's it take to be a liaison, and what kind of time and effort does it take? You'd be surprised at what we're looking for - and how doable the work is, how awesome the feeling is to be an advocate for families who are doing great work but could use some love and community from a parish family.
WHAT'S AN SLE SCHOOL LIAISON? A school liaison can be a dad, a mom, a grandparent, even a high school junior or senior who knows and love their school and the families who make it so special. They should be someone who has a good relationship with faculty and staff and who has strong communication skills and a heart for people.
WHAT DOES AN SLE SCHOOL LIAISON DO? Our school liaisons keep us aware of school events, special projects, great students who are Saint Luke parishioners and need recognition at our parish, and families who would like to reconnect with the Church. It's not a sales pitch, but we've all been there. You're a volunteer at school, a student, or parent, and someone mentions something that gets you thinking about a Saint Luke ministry or organization that would be really helpful: everything from service hours to a family who could use a little help getting back on their feet through Good Sams. Give them our contact information, and let them reach out! Or invite them to an event/opportunity at Saint Luke!
HOW MUCH WORK/TIME WILL A LIAISON PUT IN? Liaisons do their service by being friends, neighbors, school volunteers, and families, and they don't need to go to scheduled meetings. We connect you with our pastoral team, share how we're hoping to accomplish our goals(build a strong community outreach and parish family), and then send you information about our parish events and activities, opportunities for student service hours and volunteer work, as well as Good Sams and Saint Luke resources that just might be exactly what a student, parent, or teacher may need. You just share the information with them and keep us in the loop about events where Saint Luke clergy, patoral team members, and parishioners can participate - how cool is that?!
